Playazo de Rodalquilar is a fine sandy beach right in the desert of Almeria. You can get there through a path next to the village of Rodalquilar.
'El Playazo' is one of the many delightful beaches of Cabo de Gata-Nijar. This long unspoiled beach is only a short distance from Rodalquilar. El Playazo enjoys an exceptional environmental setting. Incidentally, the beach is also known as the Playa de Rodalquilar due to its close proximity to the town. Playa de Playazo roughly translates as big beach. It is utterly stunning. It is long and unspoiled and its sweeping bay enjoys excellent views. It is one of a number of attractive beaches in the Natural Park.
This beach is a treasure. A quiet place to enjoy direct contact with nature. In the northeast corner you will find a white lava ashes rocks, frequented by fishermen, divers and young adventurers. You can snorkel and discover the richness of its seabed. As for the underwater views, there is a variety of species, just 15 meters from the beach, including some endangered species like the red sea urchins and jellyfish species.

La Isleta del Moro is a tiny village boasting just 171 inhabitants situated on a rocky promontory that extends out of the Cabo de Gata volcanic coastline. This little cluster of white houses, with a small jetty and collection of open fishing boats moored in the crystal waters of the bay, separates the beach and low cliffs stretching westwards towards Los Escullos from the La Isleta del Moro beach on the eastern side of the town.

From Las Negras there is a footpath to the beautiful Cala de San Pedro beach, which takes about 40 minutes to an hour to walk or you can take a boat.
There is one fairly extensive beach in Agua Amarga with canoes to rent in high season. There are a number of very nice restaurants. On the way to Agua Amarga there are some little gorgeous beaches. as Cala del Medio and Cala del Plomo.
‘Playa de los Muertos’ is becoming increasingly popular. It is not hard to see why. Situated near the village of Carboneras. No amount of pictures or descriptions could ever do it justice, it is a beach that has to be seen. Wear good shoes as there is a bit of walk down (about a 1km), but is well worth the effort.
Some of the most well known are ‘Los Genoveses beach’ used as a backdrop in the Lawrence of Arabia film (1962), ‘Monsul beach’ characterised by its volcanic black sand and used by Steven Spielberg as a backdrop during the filming of Indiana Jones. These two beaches are located near the village of San Jose.
The tranquil, crystal-clear waters and breathtaking underwater scenery of the Parque Natural de Cabo de Gata have created a paradise for scuba diving and snorkeling. Good visibility, coral reefs, caves, underwater basalt columns, and an unbelievable wealth of fish / marine life have made Cabo de Gata one of Europe’s best dive sites. Due to its natural park status, most beaches in Cabo de Gata have no facilities, there no bars/toilets or restaurants…always make sure to bring plenty of water and sunscreen.
