The variety of food and dishes that can be tasted throughout this province is spectacular. There are both seefood as well as vegetables and meats - after all, the Province of Almeria is also called Europe’s food-store, supplying vegetables and fruits to entire Europe throughout the year.. Fish, fried, grilled and casseroled, grilled meats and spicy Arab-influenced dishes feature the menus in Almería. Try 'sopa de Almería' (shellfish soup), embutidos (cured meats), gachas (spicy clam stew) and patatas a lo pobre (sautéed potatoes with green peppers).
The local cuisine reflects the city's and the province's Moorish history and is hence strongly influenced by Arab and North African cooking styles. With the sea so close, fish and seafood naturally feature significantly in local dishes and with tomatoes and olive oil among the foods produced locally, there are plenty of dishes featuring both.
One of the most typical dish from Cabo de Gata is the 'Cujadera' and is basically a fish and potato roast. The fish is whatever they have caught in the day and is supplemented with shellfish and squid. This is all then cooked with potatoes in a fish stock and the result is truly delicious. The name, cuajadera, comes from the dish in which it is cooked - literally 'curdling pan'.

A great place for a drink, or for delicious tapas, cocktails, ice-creams and desserts is 'El Polvorin' in Rodalquilar by the church. Very good music and also live music in summer nights.
If you want a drink in a magical place, go to 'Jo Bar' in Los Escullos (9 Km from Rodalquilar), near the campsite.. It is decorated in an original and different style with oddities and rare antiques (motor parts, road signs, pirate skulls, nomad tents, pillows, cactuses in all places). Rock and blues minded. And very often live music performances. At night a million stars appear very brightly and clear and then it gets really magical!
